Hampi, located in the southern state of Karnataka, India, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that attracts thousands of tourists every year. Known for its stunning rock formations, ancient temples, and rich history, Hampi is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in culture, history, and architecture. But beyond the famous landmarks and attractions, Hampi is also home to many charming villages that offer visitors a glimpse into rural life in India. One such village is Sanapur, a peaceful riverside hamlet that is well worth a visit.

Now if you are planning to travel to Hampi and searching for a less crowded alternative, then consider visiting Sanapur- a small village on the other side of the Tungabhadra river which is far less crowded compared to the side where the major Hampi monuments are located. The village is just 4 km away from Hampi and is absolutely amazing.

Located on the banks of the Tungabhadra River, Sanapur is a picturesque village that is surrounded by lush greenery and towering boulders. The village is only a short drive from Hampi and is easily accessible by taxi, auto-rickshaw, or scooter. As you enter the village, you will be greeted by the sight of the Tungabhadra River flowing gently through the countryside, and the sound of chirping birds and rustling leaves.

Sanapur is home to several amazing resorts that exude a relaxing atmosphere, including the Serene Boulders. This resort definitely stands out as it is located right next to the Tungabhadra river, allowing visitors to enjoy the sound of the flowing water while relaxing in the café. The resort is surrounded by lush green nature and offers excellent food and beautiful hut-style rooms, creating a truly tranquil and peaceful experience.

The place is also surrounded by lush green forests and hills, which provide ample opportunities for nature walks, birdwatching, and trekking. The area is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including spotted deer, monkeys, and various species of birds.

One of the main attractions of Sanapur is its ancient reservoir, known as the Sanapur Lake. On the way, you will be greeted with the never-ending paddy fields decorated with rocky formations in the background.

The lake offers a serene and peaceful environment for visitors to relax and soak in the natural beauty. It’s huge and is bordered by hillocks, densely filled with different-sized boulders.

Just 15-20 mins away from Serene boulders are the Sanapur waterfalls, which is another absolutely stunning place to visit! This is a perfect place to relax as you can sit in the water with your feet inside the damp sand.

Another less-known but absolutely stunning place to visit is Vanabhadra – A place surrounded by majestic rocks with breathtaking sights, and an awe-inspiring sunset view. Not many people are aware of this place and probably, locals can help you reach there. One remarkable view here is a rock painted as Nandi – it's absolutely stunning! There is a beautiful ancient Shiva temple as well On top of one of the hills which adds to the spiritual beauty of the area.

Sanapur is home to several ancient temples, some of which are:

  1. Ranganatha Temple - The Ranganatha Temple is the main temple in Sanapur and is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The temple dates back to the 12th century and features intricate carvings and sculptures.

  2. Panchamukhi Anjaneya Temple - The Panchamukhi Anjaneya Temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman and is located on top of a hill near Sanapur. The temple is famous for its five-faced statue of Hanuman, which is said to represent the five elements of nature.
